SP sings paeans for affection showered on him

  Noted playback singer Dr S P Balasubramaniam today said the love and affection shown to him by people of Karnataka was unparalleled, which no other state had given him since the last 35-years as a film playback singer. Speaking after receiving the annual ‘Sangeeta Ganga’ award for his contribution to music, particularly Kannada, at a function organised by Sangeetha Ganga organisation here, Dr Balasubramaniam said that the affection given to him by Kannadigas was extraordinary, much to the applause of the large gathering. 

Dr Balasubramaniam, who was presented the award, a memento and Rs 5000 by Minister of State for Kannada and Culture Rani Satish, said that the award presented to him was more prestigious than several other awards presented to him. As a goodwill gesture, he returned the award, besides the cash prize of Rs 5,000 to the ‘Sangeetha Ganga’ association for encouraging young artistes.

JD (U) leader P G R Sindhia, who released a cassette ‘Vishwamathe’ in memory of late G V Athri , said Dr Balasubramaniam’s popularity extended beyond the country’s borders. Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy chairperson H R Leelavathi, Mr K C Ramamurthy, director, Department of Kannada and Culture, Lyricist R N Jayagopal also spoke. Noted music director Vijaybhaskar was among those present. Dr Balasubramiam sang some popular tracks of Kannada films on the occasion.
