Not in good taste

The Hindu, September 12, 2003

PLAYBACK SINGER S.P. Balasubrahmanyam has innumerable fans not only for his talent, but for his socially relevant observations he would make when he anchored the popular `Padutha Teeyaga' TV programme.

He was the guest of honour at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans's (Jubilee Hills), Melody Fest, a concert of classical and light music presented by students.

He was all appreciation for the school promoting classic art and inculcating cultural values.

And he chose the occasion to remark about aberrations that are creeping into Ganesh Chavithi celebrations.

"How can one celebrate a devotional activity with loud and boisterous film music with vulgar lyrics and young lads gyrating under the influence of alcohol.'' "Did anyone give it a thought,'' he wonders.

"Lord Ganesha surely would be waiting to go back to His abode rather than suffer the farce the so-called devotional activity is reduced to,'' he quipped.
