BELLARY: Perhaps for the first time in the recent past, people of Bellary were enthralled by the well-known playback singer, S.P.Balasubramanyam.

Mr. Balasubramanyam, along with his sister, S.P. Shailaja, and his musical troupe, sang several popular devotional and film songs in Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi.

The musical night was organised by the Sri Swamy Ayyappa Temple Trust to raise funds for the completion the first phase of the Ayyappa temple that is coming up near the Taranath Government Ayurveda College on Anantapur road. The design and structure of the proposed temple would be a replica of the original temple at Shabarimalai.

Cine actors, Srikant and Doddanna, were present.

Mr. Balasubramanyam, Ms. Shailaja, and Mr. Srikant were felicitated. The Mayor, G. Somashekar Reddy; the MLC, K.C. Kondaiah; the president of the Karnataka State Janata Dal (Secular), N. Tippanna; the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Subhash Bharani; the Deputy Commissioner, S.N. Jayaram; and the Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Kumar Thakur, were present.

The sprit of music lovers was dampened, when the programme had to be stopped abruptly following light showers. However, the patience did pay good dividends in the end. The rain stopped and the programme continued.

Jayaprakash Gupta, chairman of the trust, welcomed the gathering. Raghvendra proposed a vote of thanks.
